| In September 2009, Mr. O’Dea, Ms. O’Sullivan and Mr. Hurley visited our Comenius partner school in the Czech Republic. The school is located in Horovice, under an hour outside Prague.

| On arrival we were welcomed with a colourful reception of European songs and costumes. Mr. O’Dea, Ms. O’Sullivan and Mr. Hurley were delighted to present the school with an Irish flag and some gifts form Ireland.

| The children of the school performed a traditional Czech dance in full costume.Chris was so excited to back in Horovice school. He sat with the Junior Infant class and listened quietly. He was really interested in how the Czech dance reminded him of Irish set dancing.

We visited the classrooms and spoke with the teachers and pupils. School is very similar to school in Ireland. The children have beautiful handwriting and art work.
We ate in the school canteen. Dumplings made with potatoes and flour are very popular for lunch.

| We visited the school kindergarten. Children do not start primary school until they are 6 years old in the Czech Republic.

The older boys showed us around the school and helped us find our way in this very big school, with over 600 pupils. These boys have three classes of English a week and enjoyed practicing their English with us.
We visited a local crystal glass factory, where they blow and shape beautiful Czech glass.

| Chris was so excited when we told him we were going to Prague. He waited patiently on the platform for the train.
Prague is the capital city in the Czech Republic and is visited by millions of tourists every year.
Prague is a beautiful city with fine buildings and dramatic castles and cathedrals.

Chris even met the guard outside the President’s palace.
We had a guided tour of the local castle, which had a very ornate fresco on the ceiling.
