Active Green School

Green Flag

Check out our Active Green School Committee Blog under Clubs and Activities!

Greenmount School is an inner city school. However we are lucky enough to have a large garden area within our school premises. As this garden area was being developed so too was the awareness of taking better care of our school environment.

Greenmount is formally recognised as a Health Promoting School and we actively promote all aspects of health, physical and emotional wellbeing. We also partake in the Green Schools Programme run by An Taisce. We have been awarded 4 Green Flags and are in the process of applying for a 5th.  Our Active Green School Committee helps guide us in our efforts to be the healthiest and most environmentally friendly school we can be.

Our school has played a major role in U.C.C.’s Cork Children’s Lifestyle Study.  The study looked at children’s eating and exercise habits.  The results were very interesting!  Check out the results of the study @ http://www.ucc.ie/en/epid/research/foodhealth/

We also took part in Project SPRAOI in conjunction with Cork Institute of Technology. Project SPROAI is focused on a whole school approach to improving our eating habits and levels of physical exercise.  More information on Project SPROAI can be found @ http://www.thehealthwell.info/sites/all/libraries/tinymce/files/Spraoi_Promo.pdf

Our latest endeavor is the Active Flag Programme. We are working hard to increase our school activity levels in an effort to be awarded an Active Flag.
